Sometimes you need that special tech and other gadgets to make traveling smoother, more comfortable and, if its work-related, more efficient. To help with that, we've listed below some of our favorite, affordable, must-have travel accessories for 2024. Favorite Garment Bag. We picked the Modoker Carry on Garment Bag up a year and half ago and haven't traveled without it since. It's got a large overall carrying capacity (45 liters) and yet is sized to meet just about all airplane carry-on requirements. It easily fits a full suit (without wrinkling it), a pair of shoes and various additional accessories (including toiletries). In fact, on weekend trips, this is basically all we carry, as it has more than enough space for one person's weekend needs. For longer trips, the suitcase strap allows you to connect over the handles of a standard rolling suitcase, thereby increasing your overall carrying capacity without the added inconvenience of shouldering multiple bags. And it is priced considerably less than many of its competitors. In short, we absolutely love the Modoker Carry on Garment Bag. I don't know how we used to travel without it.
Favorite Laptop Backpack. When we need to bring our laptop with us (which is often), we always pack it using the SwissGear ScanSmart Laptop Bag. It holds our 15 inch laptop snuggly in a padded compartment (with velcro strap to keep it in place), has a convenient built in USB port for charging, a designated hard case sunglasses pocket and numerous zippered and elastic pockets throughout. You can store a bottle in each of two side pockets (one of which is insulated) which, together with its comfortable shoulder straps, makes this a very comfortable bag to carry while hoofing it about town. We absolutely love this lightweight, breathable and comfortable laptop backpack.
Favorite Headphones. When you are on a long haul red eye flight, you need to be able to tune out the airplane and other noise and get some sleep. That's why we use the Sony WH-1000XM5 noise canceling headphones. These things are amazing! They boast up to 30 hours of battery life, are ridiculously comfortable and their noise cancelling capabilities are insane (no more chatty neighbors or crying babies on your flights!). While they aren't cheap (as of the time of writing, the current price is about $400) they are, by far the best headphones we've ever used. Also, for a slightly cheaper alternative (think, $50 less or so), you can opt for the prior model, the Sony WH-1000XM4. They are almost identical (although the noise cancelling capabilities of the Sony WH-1000XM5 are a bit better). We have both versions, and aren't audiophiles enough to tell you if there is a difference in sound quality (they both sound amazing to our untrained ears)). Frankly, we like the ovular carrying case of the Sony WH-1000XM4 a bit better (but, then again, you aren't buying high quality noise cancelling headphones for the carrying case they come in).
